Mr Andrew T M Carton, MA, FFDRCS, FDSRCPS (Glasg), FRCS (Maxfac)
Andrew qualified in both medicine and dentistry at Trinity College in Dublin. Having visited and worked in several centres in the USA as well as India and China, he has developed a particular interest in head and neck malignancy and aesthetic facial surgery. He has presented many papers in these areas. Andrew is currently a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at Monklands and The Southern General Hospitals as well as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
Mr John Devine, BDS, MB ChB, FDSRCS (Eng), FDSRCPS (Glas), FRCS (Eng), FRCS (OMFS)
Mr John Devine is a Consultant Facial Surgeon at the Regional Maxillofacial Unit in Glasgow and specialises in Facial Plastic Surgery. Having completed Dental and Medical qualification at Glasgow and Manchester Universities he undertook General and Plastic surgery training in Liverpool before obtaining the FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He then undertook higher Surgical specialist training at the World renowned Facial Surgery unit in Liverpool and decided at an early stage to specialise in Facial Reconstructive surgery. In 2001 he was awarded the Prestigious Norman Rowe Prize by the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for clinical research. He is a Fellow of the Association of Facial Plastic Surgeons and of the European Association of Facial Plastic Surgery as well as The British Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons. He specialises in all aspects of Facial Rejuvenation including both surgical (face and neck lifts, brow lifts, eyelid surgery, laser resurfacing) and non-surgical procedures (chemical peels, fillers and anti-wrinkle treatments). He is committed to surgical education and runs the National Microvascular practical course each year with colleagues in Liverpool and has lectured worldwide on Facial Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Dr. Devine has travelled extensively in Europe and North America, gaining experience in the most up to date Facial Plastic surgery techniques. Mr Devine is committed to providing the highest standard of state of the art Facial Aesthetic and rejuvenation Procedures at Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry.
Mr W Stuart Hislop, FDSRCS (Edin), FDSRCPS (Glasg), FRCS (Edin)
Stuart is a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Crosshouse Hospital, where, since 1994, he has helped develop the range of head and neck services within Ayrshire. He is graduate of dentistry at Dundee University and medicine at the University of Bristol. His special interests include jaw and facial deformity surgery, as well as facial aesthetic and skin cancer surgery. He has experience in all aspects of his specialty. Apart from dentoalveolar surgery, his main interests include treatment of head and neck malignancy, the surgical aspects of oral rehabilitation, head and neck skin cancer and lesions, salivary gland disorders both surgical and medical, facial trauma both hard and soft tissue and related medico legal issues.
Stuart is also interested in training and education and is involved in national and European faculty for trauma teaching within AO and is involved with the colleges in examinations. He is Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and has published extensively. He sits on several local and national committees.
Professor Khursheed F. Moos, OBE FRCS (Edin). FDSRCS (Eng. & Edin) FDSRCPS (Glasg)
Khursheed Moos is an Honorary Consultant at Glasgow Dental Hospital & School – previously Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Canniesburn Hospital Regional Unit. He was originally a graduate in Dentistry and Medicine of London University. His particular interests were in orthognathic, craniofacial and trauma surgery but now he principally practises dento-alveolar surgery including surgical implantology, the management of surgical pathology of the jaws and temporomandibular joint disease. He has had wide postgraduate teaching experience and has published extensively. He has a major interest in postgraduate education and medico-legal work. He travels, lecturing and teaching internationally and is a postgraduate examiner for Glasgow University and the UK Royal Colleges.
Mr Ross Jones, BDS (Hons), BMSc (Hons), MFDS RCS (Edin), M Orth RCS (Edin), MSc, FDS RCS (Edin).
Ross is a Consultant and Specialist in Orthodontics. He studied dentistry at Dundee University, qualifying in 1999. He also elected to undertake a degree in Medical Science whilst studying at Dundee University. His specialist postgraduate training took place at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School obtaining his Orthodontic Specialist M Orth qualification in 2005 and a Masters degree in Orthodontics from the University of Glasgow. Following further Specialist training to become a Consultant, he took the Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in 2007. Ross was awarded the prestigious William Houston Medal as part of his Specialist training in Orthodontics.
Ross is a Consultant Orthodontist at Monklands District General Hospital and provides training and teaching to both undergraduate and post-graduate students at Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. He has a keen interest in research and has published extensively. His main interests include the management of complex multi-disciplinary cases and the treatment of adult malocclusions using aesthetic orthodontic appliance systems.
Arshad Ali BDS, FDSRCS (Eng & Edin), FDSRCPS (Glasg), DRD, MRD RCS (Edin)
Arshad is Clinical Director of the Scottish Centre of Excellence for Dentistry. He established Niddrie Square Clinic in 2001 and it has become one of the leading dental centres in the United Kingdom. Due to continued growth of the clinic, the need arose to move to the custom built Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry.
Arshad qualified with commendation at the University of Glasgow in 1978 and carried out ten years of postgraduate training in Glasgow, Cardiff, London and Sweden. He is currently also working as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in Glasgow Dental Hospital and School where he is involved mainly in the rehabilitation of patients with cancer and major trauma. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at The University of Glasgow. He has been involved in implantology since 1985 and has continued to develop his expertise in this area. He was a winner of The Creative Circles Award at the 40th Anniversary Nobel Biocare World Conference in Las Vegas in 2005, the Crown and Bridge and Implant Award at the NobelBiocare World Tour Conference in London in September 2006, and the Senior Clinicians Award at the NobelBiocare World Conference in Las Vegas in 2007.
Arshad is a Trainer for the NobelGuide Teeth in an Hour™ concept. He has given over 250 lectures and courses in the UK, Europe, North America, Hawaii and The Far East. He is currently providing lectures and hands-on courses in crowns, bridges and implants. He is also an examiner in Dental Surgery for The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has served on the Specialist Advisory Committee at the Royal College of Surgeons and has been a Council member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Penny Hodge, BDS, PhD
Penny is a Lecturer in Periodontology at the University of Glasgow Dental School. She has worked in private practice restricted to periodontics since 1999 and was admitted to the Specialist List in Periodontics in 2002. As well as undergraduate teaching, Penny has been involved in postgraduate teaching of specialist registrars and taught MSc students and has also lectured both in the West and East of Scotland to general dental practitioners.
Alan Maxwell, MSc, BDS, MGDS, RCS (Edin)
Alan is a Specialist in Periodontics. He graduated from the University of Glasgow Dental School in 1982 and subsequently obtained his MGDS from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1990. After obtaining his MSc in Periodontology in 1997 at the University of Bristol, he was accepted on to the Specialist Register in Periodontics in 2000.
Alan joined the Royal Navy as a dental cadet in his third year at University. After twenty two years service and reaching the rank of Surgeon Commander, practicing dentistry worldwide, he retired from the Royal Navy in 2001 to work in private practice, and has joined the Niddrie Square Clinic as a Periodontal Specialist. He also has an interest in cosmetic and crown and bridge dentistry.
He is a member of the British Society of Periodontology and has had his work published regularly in a number of leading dental journals. Alan also previously served as an examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and lectures to General Dental Practitioners on a regular basis.
Mr Krishnakant Bhatia, BDS (Glasg), MFDS RCPS (Glasg), MClinDent (Edin), MRD RCS (Edin)
After qualifying from Glasgow Dental Hospital and School, Krish completed a range of hospital training posts within Scotland. In 2005 he was appointed as a specialist registrar in fixed and removable Prosthodontics at the Edinburgh Dental Institute. During this time he completed a masters degree in fixed and removable Prosthodontics and in 2008 was awarded his Member in Restorative Dentistry (MRD) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh specialising in Prosthodontics.
Krish is fully experienced in all aspects of conventional and implant fixed and removable Prosthodontics. He has developed a keen interest on advanced aesthetic rehabilitations using restorative, surgical and multidisciplinary approaches.
Krish still maintains a part time teaching post at the Edinburgh Dental Institute where he is committed to the postgraduate training of dentists from new graduates through to masters degree students.
Professor Bob Yemm, BDS, BSc, PhD, FDSRCS(Edin)
Bob Yemm is a graduate of Bristol University and completed his PhD in 1969, combining dental and oral physiology interests. For some years he was Head of Prosthetics at Dundee Dental School and Hospital. He retains a special interest in treatment to provide complete and partial dentures. He is a member and past President of the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry and has lectured widely in the UK and Europe.
