In July 2001, Lorna graduated from University of Dundee and went on to complete a 2 year general professional training programme. During this time she spent a year as a vocational trainee in Carnoustie, 6 months as a community dentist in Aberdeen and 6 months as an SHO in Dundee Dental Hospital. She then spent a further year as an associate in a NHS practice in Carnoustie.
Glasgow calling, Lorna moved to Paisley where she worked as an associate in a busy general dental practice for four years and in 2008 took up the position of Senior Dental Officer within the Public Dental Service. She is currently based in the Vale Centre for Health and Care in Alexandria, supervising final year undergraduate students and in Glasgow Dental Hospital treating patients with advanced periodontal disease within the Department of Restorative Dentistry. Here she also facilitates tutorials and clinical sessions in periodontics with senior undergraduate students.
She completed her General Dental Training Certificate in July 2003 and has been a Member of Faculty of Dental Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh since qualifying with MFDS in June 2004. In November 2011, she was awarded a MSc in Primary Dental Care with a special interest in Periodontology from University of Glasgow and since then has regularly attended continuing professional development in all aspects of Dentistry and in particular Periodontics. She is an active member of the British Society of Periodontology.
Lorna has extensive clinical experience in adult and paediatric dentistry as well as an enhanced knowledge and expertise in the non-surgical management of patients with complex periodontal needs including those that have previously had little success in stabilisation of their disease. She is experienced in carrying out open flap curettage in patients with persistent periodontal pocketing.
In her free time, Lorna likes to keep fit and has her hands full with two young children.
