There are people who receive treatment without sedation and there are people whose nervousness becomes something that will stop you going to the dentist. Of course anything from a simple procedure all the way through to a lot of the very complex work that we rebuild peoples mouths, does create anxiety. Sedation is fabulous for that! We have a very dedicated team of clinicians that will one-to-one look after you whilst you are sedated.
Many patients are nervous about visiting the dentist. In fact, fear is the main reason that adults in the UK give for putting off seeking dental treatment, often neglecting their teeth for many years until an emergency arises that forces them to book a dental appointment.
There are many reasons that patients give for being afraid of the dentist, from bad past experiences to a fear of being unable to get numb, or a phobia of the sights and sounds of the dental practice. Sometimes, patients fear being out of control. For those who haven't visited a dentist in many years, embarrassment may be a factor, as they fear being judged or criticised. Some people don't know the exact cause of their fear; whatever the reason, it can range from mild anxiety to complete phobia.
At Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry, we take your fears seriously. We are highly experienced in treating nervous and phobic patients, and offer a range of options to help you get the treatment you need, whatever the cause of your fear.
All of our patients receive a warm welcome and the chance to chat through any concerns they may have. For some people, learning about advances in dental techniques and technology and reassurances that you will be listened to at all times are enough to allay any fears. For those who need more help to get treatment, we offer treatment under sedation or with the aid of hypnotherapy-Glasgow-Scotland.
We also offer treatment under hypnotherapy, with our fully qualified hypnotherapist Mary Downie. Hypnosis has been successfully used to manage anxieties and phobias for many years, and is also useful to break habits, meaning it is helpful for such things as smoking cessation.
At Scottish Centre for Excellence in Dentistry, intravenous sedation techniques are carried out by our specialist and consultant anaesthetists. Sedation is useful in patients who are so anxious that they cannot have treatment under local anaesthetic alone. It also reduces the reflex of gagging. We would like to assure you that the team at the Scottish Centre for Excellence in dentistry will be very understanding of your feelings and anxieties. You can rest assured that we will listen very carefully to you and tailor your treatment so that it can be as stress and discomfort free as possible. Our anaesthetists use the very latest drugs, computerised delivery systems and continuous monitoring to ensure safe delivery of the intravenous sedative. The drugs used also result in a rapid recovery with fewer side effects.
